The Hunger Games Movie--- Two Thumbs UP!!!
WE had the pleasure of viewing the First movie in the Trilogy of the Hunger Games Movie Series this past Friday Night of Opening weekend! I had the pleasure of reading ALL three Hunger Games Books first on my own. Then another time after my 9 year old son, Adrien asked me if we could read them together!
I was hesitant at first then I thought well, I would like the chance to share the books with him and it would open a new more mature adult dialogue between us and the opportunity to develop an even stronger bond! We really enjoyed the books and were eagerly anticipating the MOVIE! I also got the WORRIED phone call from my mother-in-law about the subject matter and her thinking it would give my son nightmares. I told her well, since we already read the book he wouldn't be watching anything he didn't already imagine in his own mind when we read it so I'm sure it would be o.k. I was still SUPER excited to go see the movie with him!
The movie starts out exactly like the book and the director does an excellent job of capturing life in District 12. The major surprise to me was the way the images seemed to be captured in a semi-documentary style and they seemed to jump across the screen in a way that made you want to pause the movie so your eyes could settle on the details and take it all in slowly the way the details were described in the book and painted in your "Mind's Eye." There were a few changes in the movie that were done to streamline the story telling process in the movie translation but overall the movie was pretty true to the book.
I am also happy to say that the movie had no swearing which was the same as the book. I must warn you if you don't know what the movie is about there was a PG-13 rating due to content which I'm sure had to do with the fact that the children are forced to kill or be killed. Yes, it sounds horrid but that's not what the movie dwells on and most of the vicious images are not the FOCUS of the scene so it's not as gruesome as it sounds! Adrien's favorite character in the movie was Haymitch who was played by Woody Harrelson~~ his Thumbs up gesture in the movie wasn't in the book but was so natural in the movie it was like it was just a detail the author forgot to mention in the book! That being said, "We can't wait for the second installment- Catching FIRE!"
Well Done, Hunger Games--- Well DONE!!!
